About the Role

We are currently seeking an Associate or Senior Editor with research experience in computational social sciences, computational neuroscience, and/or computational linguistics to join Communications AI & Computing (https://www.nature.com/commsaicomp/). 

Communications AI & Computing is a multidisciplinary open-access journal publishing high-quality research across computational sciences and AI. We champion rigorous, reproducible and reusable computational research that advance the field from fundamental algorithm developments to large-scale applications. The journal complements other Nature Portfolio titles including Nature Machine Intelligence, Nature Computational Science, Nature CommunicationsScientific Reports, and the npj series. You will be responsible for selecting and developing manuscripts for publication and for promoting the journal’s coverage of computer science research.

For this role, we particularly welcome candidates whose research experience includes computational social science, computational neuroscience, and/or computational linguistics, with a focus on AI ethics and human-machine interaction. These are relevant topics for modern AI research and essential for developing responsible publishing policies and guidelines.

This is a full-time, permanent position, based in the Shanghai, Beijing, Pune, or New Delhi office under a hybrid working model.  Role Responsibilities: 

  • Making well-reasoned editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts in the light of expert advice, following the journal’s editorial policy and standards. 
  • Contribute developing editorial policies and guidelines for research involving AI and computational sciences, with a focus on open science.
  • Make accepted manuscripts accessible to a broad computer science readership by advising authors on titles, abstracts, introductions, and structure, as well as ensuring high overall reporting standards. 
  • Help recruit, support, and engage a team of external editors, guiding and assisting them with the tasks listed above and ensuring they understand and implement the journal’s philosophy and policies. 
  • Commissioning various content including Reviews, Perspectives and Comment articles.
  • Attend conferences and meetings and visit research institutions (in agreement with the Chief Editor) and report on these activities. 
  • Broadcast published works by curating and suggesting publications for press releases or Research Highlights.
  • Contribute editorial content to special projects or collections as agreed with the Chief Editor. 

Experience, Skills & Qualifications: 

  • PhD level research experience in computational social science, computational neuroscience, and/or computational linguistics, with strengths in AI ethics and human-machine interaction. Candidates from other AI-related disciplines areas with clear ethical and policy relevance are also welcome. 
  • Editorial experience, postdoctoral experience, and broad training will be an advantage but not an essential requirement. 
  • A passion for science and a desire to learn more. You must be able to demonstrate the breadth of your interest in scientific research, both within and beyond your specialty. 
  • The ability to read and assess the novelty, context, and implications of research submitted to the journal from different disciplines. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and fluency in English (written and spoken). 
  • A desire to meet scientists worldwide, online and in person, and to learn more about them and their research, and help them learn more about us and what we are looking for in the papers we seek to publish.
